Many years ago, when Louisiana was a very new part of the United States, a colorful privateer named Jean Lafitte, ruled the waters of the area that would ultimately bear his name.
Given Lafitte’s occupation, and his need for the abundant bounty of the local marshes and waters, proximity to the bayous and the Gulf of Mexico were extremely important. Over 200 years later, the bayous and the Gulf are still providing an incredible bounty. The area is, as it has always been, a Sportsman’s Paradise.
The Jean Lafitte Marina, located at the tip of Lower Lafitte, is a prominent location for boating, fishing and hunting. It is located a mere 28 miles from the Superdome, and can be reached in 45 minutes from most areas in GNO.
